A Story Shaped by Curiosity, Hospitality, and a Hole in the Market
It didn’t start in a studio or a classroom. It started with a gap we couldn’t ignore—vacation rentals that lacked soul, personality, and intention. At the time, we were simply hosts trying to elevate our own properties. A design game on a phone sparked ideas, and curiosity quickly grew into something much bigger.
We didn’t come from a traditional design background. Instead, we learned by doing—by rolling up our sleeves, managing rentals, welcoming guests, and witnessing firsthand how thoughtful design could transform an experience. What began as a small personal experiment evolved into a design studio built on passion, precision, and a deep understanding of what makes a space unforgettable.
In the span of just three years, we’ve completed close to 200 projects—each one teaching us something new, sharpening our instincts, and expanding our craft. We’ve had the privilege of designing some of Northeast Florida’s top-performing homes, along with commercial spaces and luxury residences that reflect both beauty and purpose.
We believe true luxury isn’t about excess—it’s about authenticity. It’s the harmony between functionality and beauty, comfort and character, concept and execution. Design, for me, has never been about following rules or trends. It’s about seeing potential where others see problems—and having the clarity and confidence to act on it.
My journey began in real estate, not design school. I worked as a licensed agent with one of the nation’s leading commercial real estate firms, managing more than 30 properties across St. Louis and Jacksonville. Those years taught me how spaces truly function in the real world—how decisions impact people, operations, and long-term value. It was fast-paced, demanding, and incredibly formative.
At Joseph Ellen Properties, I stepped into a dual role—overseeing daily operations while bringing bold ideas to life through interior design and property management. Working closely with Andrew, I learned to balance creativity with execution. Design wasn’t just about making things beautiful; it was about solving problems quickly, making decisive choices, and creating spaces that work hard while still feeling effortless.
That philosophy became the foundation of Joseph Ellen Designs.
I work independently, intentionally, and with a clear point of view. I believe great design should feel intuitive, not overcomplicated. It should elevate daily life, support how a space is actually used, and make people feel something the moment they walk in. I move fast, trust my instincts, and stay deeply focused on outcomes—because good design doesn’t just look good, it performs.
When I’m not designing or managing projects, you’ll usually find me staying active, spending time with my two energetic terriers, or investing in personal growth. Those moments of balance keep me grounded—and they influence how I design: with clarity, purpose, and heart.
